Rain Continues in Delhi-NCR, Temperature Drops and Air Quality Improves

New Delhi, March 20: The weather in the National Capital Region (NCR) has remained consistent over the past two days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), clouds will persist in the region, with light to moderate rain expected throughout the day along with strong winds.

The weather department reported that winds could reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, occasionally peaking at 50 kilometers per hour. Residents are advised to stay alert. Today’s maximum temperature is recorded at approximately 25 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is around 13 degrees Celsius. The sky has been overcast since morning, with light rain observed in several areas.

The IMD forecast indicates that rain and thunderstorms may occur at different times throughout the day—morning, afternoon, evening, and night. Additionally, significant improvements in air quality have been noted. According to Central Pollution Control Board data, most areas in NCR now fall within the green and yellow zones for the Air Quality Index (AQI). In Alipur, the AQI is recorded at 91, in Aaya Nagar at 90, and at the Commonwealth Sports Complex at 96, all categorized as green.

However, areas like Anand Vihar have an AQI of 178, Bawana at 122, Chandni Chowk at 116, and the Cantonment area at 124, which fall into the yellow (moderate) category. In contrast, the Burari area has an alarming AQI of 366, placing it in the red zone, indicating severe pollution levels.

In Noida, the AQI readings are 111 in Sector 125, 103 in Sector 62, 150 in Sector 1, and 117 in Sector 116, all classified as moderate. Meanwhile, in Ghaziabad, Indirapuram reports an AQI of 146, Loni at 173, Sanjay Nagar at 126, and Vasundhara at 142, all within the yellow zone.

The weather department’s seven-day forecast suggests continued cloud cover with occasional rain and thunderstorms on March 20. From March 21 to 22, the sky will be partially cloudy, while clear weather with sunshine is expected from March 23 to 25, with maximum temperatures gradually rising to 33 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists state that the combination of strong winds and rain has led to a decrease in pollution levels, providing relief to residents. However, due to the risk of strong winds and lightning, people are advised to avoid open areas and take necessary precautions.
