New Delhi: After three days of clear skies and sunshine, the weather in the National Capital Region (NCR) is set to change once again. According to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of the NCR may experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds today, January 27.
The IMD has warned that winds could reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at various times throughout the day, with a possibility of lightning strikes. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may drop to approximately 9 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels will remain quite high, reaching up to 100 percent in the morning and around 80 percent during the daytime.
Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecasted for the morning, afternoon, evening, and night. From January 28 onwards, the weather pattern will shift again. The IMD predicts moderate fog over the NCR on January 28, 29, and 30. Temperatures on January 28 are likely to range between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius, while on January 29 and 30, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 18 to 19 degrees Celsius and the minimum close to 9 degrees Celsius.
No weather warnings have been issued for these days. The recent rain and strong winds have noticeably improved air quality across many parts of the NCR. In Noida, the Air Quality Index (AQI) readings stand at 287 in Sector-125, 258 in Sector-62, 288 in Sector-1, and 303 in Sector-116. In Ghaziabad, AQI levels are recorded at 363 in Indirapuram, 384 in Loni, 289 in Sanjay Nagar, and 361 in Vasundhara.
Similarly, several areas in Delhi have seen a decline in pollution levels. Locations such as Lodhi Road (AQI 194), Mandir Marg (180), and Dwarka (166) have reached the yellow zone, indicating moderate air quality. However, areas including Anand Vihar (368), Ashok Vihar (358), Nehru Nagar (366), Okhla Phase-2 (334), and Bawana (344) continue to experience poor air quality, remaining in the red zone.
Meteorologists note that the rainfall and strong winds have contributed significantly to reducing pollution but warn that the cold will intensify. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions against the cold and adverse weather conditions.
