Chennai, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Rainfall is expected across various parts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre. The forecast indicates moderate rain in Chennai and 15 other districts, including Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram. Thunderstorms and strong winds may accompany the precipitation.
The meteorological department notes that a trough extends from northern interior Karnataka to southern interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, reaching up to the Gulf of Mannar at an altitude of about 0.9 kilometers above sea level. Additionally, an upper air circulation is present over coastal Andhra Pradesh and the adjacent Rayalaseema region, approximately 1.5 kilometers above sea level.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated in several districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Thanjavur. Winds are expected to gust between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, with thunderstorms likely.
Moderate rain is also forecasted for other districts, such as Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Salem, Tirupur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Kallakurichi, Madurai, and Shivaganga. Light rain may occur in other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
On Friday, sporadic heavy rain is expected in Nilgiris and Coimbatore. Saturday may bring intensified rainfall in northern Tamil Nadu, affecting districts like Tiruvallur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri.
By Sunday, heavy rain could impact western, central, and southern parts of Tamil Nadu, particularly in districts such as Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Shivaganga, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Pudukkottai, and Tiruchirappalli. Light to moderate rain may continue statewide until Tuesday.
In Chennai and surrounding areas, the skies will be partly cloudy on Thursday. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely in some regions during the evening or night. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may be between 27 to 28 degrees Celsius.
Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into parts of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea until Sunday, as wind speeds could reach up to 65 kilometers per hour. No warnings have been issued for the Tamil Nadu coast or the Arabian Sea.
