Rahul Gandhi Highlights Education System Flaws at Students Echo Event

Dehradun, July 18: In a recent event titled ‘Students’ Echo’ held in Dehradun, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, engaged in a dialogue with students. He criticized the government, stating that paper leaks have become a common occurrence in India, implicating the entire education system, yet no action has been taken against the culprits.

During the event, Gandhi emphasized the need for a student-centered education system, contrasting it with the current government-centric approach. He pointed out that a student invests five years preparing for exams, with an average family expenditure of ₹900,000. Despite this, there have been 152 paper leaks in the past decade. He lamented that the system has turned into a “rate card” for seats and jobs, with no one facing punishment, thereby jeopardizing the future of 75 million youth. He called for a complete overhaul of this corrupt education system, advocating for a transparent and accountable examination process that ensures student safety.

Gandhi outlined two paths for students. The first is one of honesty and hard work, requiring eight hours of daily effort for five years, alongside facing financial burdens, family pressures, and age limits. The second path is the corrupt route of paper leaks. He noted that those with money can exploit this hidden path, advancing through dishonest means.

He stated that the first rule for following the corrupt path is that parents should not belong to poor or middle-class backgrounds. Additionally, it requires a lack of integrity. While 99.9% of students choose the honest path, a few exploit the system, harming the majority.

Gandhi highlighted the alarming rise in paper leak incidents, with over 70 million students affected in the last decade. He noted that there have been 152 leaks, averaging one per month, and stressed that the conviction rate in such cases is zero. No one has been imprisoned or punished for these crimes to date.
