Ranchi, August 10: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded on Monday to the police action against students protesting alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams in Jharkhand. He condemned the use of force against the demonstrators and urged the state government to listen to the students and resolve the issues through dialogue.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Gandhi stated that the use of force against protesting students in Jharkhand is unjust. He emphasized that students have the right to peaceful protest and that solutions can only be found through conversation. He called on the Jharkhand government to address the students’ concerns immediately.
Previously, Rahul Gandhi had expressed support for the demands of the protesting students. He had spoken with them over the phone to understand their issues and showed his backing for their requests.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand government minister Deepika Pandey Singh presented the government’s stance regarding the student protests and police actions. She asserted that there is no situation of brutality or lack of communication similar to that seen at Jantar Mantar in Jharkhand. The government had already initiated action regarding the matter before the students began their protests. She mentioned that a detailed investigation is ongoing based on CID inquiries, arrests, and other digital evidence, ensuring that no guilty party escapes accountability.
Deepika Pandey Singh stated that Chief Minister Hemant Soren is closely monitoring the shortcomings in the recruitment process. She assured students that improvements in the system are being addressed. According to her, the government has invited the students for further discussions and is fully prepared for dialogue. She accused the BJP of politicizing the student movement. The minister reiterated that the government believes that solutions to problems can only be achieved through conversation.
She noted that many students have acknowledged that the state government has taken positive actions regarding their main demands, a step not seen in many other states. The minister expressed that the government is serious about addressing students’ issues in the current assembly session. She added that the students’ protests were pre-planned, and the government had attempted to engage in discussions, but the students were not receptive.
