Bhubaneswar, August 10: Senior Congress leader Santosh Singh Saluja has made a significant statement regarding the police action against students and Gen Z protesters at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He openly supports Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s demand for an investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
In a conversation, Saluja emphasized that the youth and Gen Z were peacefully and democratically protesting at Jantar Mantar. Their demands were entirely legitimate, prompting the government to concede and even leading to the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. The brutal treatment of the youth, including beatings with batons, the use of tear gas, and reports of armed force against young protesters in Bihar, is deeply shameful. India is a democratic and free nation where every citizen has the right to peaceful protest under the Constitution. The brutality against the protesters and the serious injuries inflicted upon them deserve utmost condemnation.
Supporting Rahul Gandhi’s call for an investigation overseen by a sitting Supreme Court judge, Saluja stated that every citizen in the country is in favor of this. Nearly 20 days have passed since the incident, yet the government has not provided a satisfactory response. He questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have not addressed this matter in Parliament, despite being quick to take credit for military actions at the borders. Amit Shah should respond in Parliament; if he does not, the nation understands that this is being deliberately ignored.
Saluja alleged that the opposition’s calls for discussions in Parliament and various platforms regarding this issue are being rejected. He claimed that even the Lok Sabha Speaker is being controlled, which is unacceptable for a democratic country. He stressed that the demand for a fair investigation into this incident, as raised by Rahul Gandhi, is entirely justified and he strongly supports it in the pursuit of justice for the nation’s future and its children.
