Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Bihars Flood Management Amid Ongoing Crisis

Patna, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has sharply criticized the BJP’s “double-engine” government for its handling of the severe flooding in Bihar. In a post on social media platform X, he expressed his deep condolences to families affected by the disaster, which has left hundreds of villages submerged and resulted in numerous casualties.

Gandhi noted, “The floods have once again wreaked havoc in Bihar, impacting millions. The most tragic aspect is that this crisis is not new. Every year, floods bring death and displacement, forcing people to migrate.” He challenged the BJP government, asking what concrete actions have been taken over the past 17 years to address this recurring disaster. “Bihar’s residents need permanent solutions, not just annual relief and assurances,” he added.

His comments have intensified political discourse in Bihar, with opposition parties questioning both the state and central governments on their flood management strategies. The situation remains dire in several districts, including Supaul, Saharsa, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur, due to rising waters in the Kosi, Gandak, and Bagmati rivers.

The Congress party emphasized that the NDA has been in power for most of the past 17 years, yet no sustainable plans to combat flooding have been implemented. They argue that the government’s response has been limited to providing relief supplies and conducting aerial surveys.

In contrast, BJP leaders maintain that the government is fully engaged in relief and rescue operations, asserting that all possible assistance is being dispatched from the central government. The current flooding crisis has worsened due to water released from Nepal, prompting the evacuation of millions to safer areas. However, Gandhi has linked this issue to the need for long-term solutions, holding the government accountable for its inaction.
