Patna, May 9: Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticized the BJP-led government in Bihar following a reported police crackdown on peaceful protests by teacher candidates in the capital. The protests were held to demand the release of advertisements for the fourth phase of teacher recruitment.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Gandhi condemned the actions of the Bihar police, stating that they brutally attacked candidates who were peacefully demonstrating for employment opportunities. He emphasized that the government’s response to unemployed youth is violence.
Highlighting the issue of unemployment, Gandhi noted that it has become one of the most pressing problems in the country, severely affecting the youth of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. He remarked that millions of young people, armed with degrees and skills, are struggling to find jobs, yet the BJP government shows no concern for their plight. Instead of providing jobs, the government resorts to violence against those who demand their rights.
Gandhi’s comments came after a violent incident in Patna, where thousands of teacher candidates peacefully protested, urging the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to issue the advertisement for the Teacher Recruitment Exam-4 (TRE-4).
Tensions escalated near JP Golambar when police reportedly charged at the crowd after protesters attempted to breach barricades. Several students were injured during the incident.
Videos and images circulating on social media show police pursuing protesters down nearby streets, with many candidates claiming they sustained injuries during the crackdown. An official reported that approximately 5,000 candidates marched from Patna College to the BPSC office, demanding the immediate release of the TRE-4 notification.
