Uttar Pradeshs government emphasizes environmental education in schools during BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, fostering eco-friendly habits among students.

Lucknow, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is focusing on nurturing environmental consciousness and social responsibility among students. From November 1 to November 7, over 132,000 primary schools across the state are observing BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week. This initiative aims to encourage students to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
During this week, approximately 14.2 million students are being inspired to become responsible citizens and to spread the message of sustainable living within their homes and communities. Eco clubs play a significant role in this program, which provides information and educational materials through a designated portal.
Each day of the week features activities centered around a specific theme. Activities held so far include promoting healthy lifestyles on November 1, energy conservation on November 2, and water conservation on November 3. On November 4, students learned about sustainable food systems. Upcoming themes include reducing single-use plastics on November 5, minimizing e-waste on November 6, and waste reduction on November 7.
These activities aim to educate students on the prudent use of resources and the importance of environmental preservation. Under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, schools are being transformed into centers for environmental awareness and public engagement. Activities such as Mission Life pledges, poster creation, workshops, and awareness campaigns are being organized. Students and teachers are collaborating to spread messages about energy conservation, water management, alternatives to plastic, waste segregation, and recycling. They are encouraged to extend these practices beyond school to their homes and communities.
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh stated, “Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the state government is committed to providing quality education while fostering responsible citizens. Through BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, we are linking students to habits like energy and water conservation, reduced plastic use, and waste management. The habits developed today will lay a strong foundation for environmental protection in the future.”
Monika Rani, Director General of School Education, added that activities based on the seven themes of Mission Life are being conducted in primary schools. The aim is to make eco-friendly behaviors a part of daily life through student and eco club participation. Students are also encouraged to share these messages with their families and communities.
