Noida witnessed a packed stadium on Sunday evening as fans gathered at the Noida Indoor Stadium to witness the high-voltage Pro Wrestling League (PWL) final between Delhi Dangal Warriors and Haryana Thunder. This was the league’s first final since 2019, marking a significant comeback after a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the absence of several top international wrestlers and well-known Indian stars, the Pro Wrestling League attracted large crowds throughout the tournament, demonstrating a strong connection with Indian wrestling enthusiasts.
The final began with a spiritual ambiance, as renowned musician Rasraj Ji Maharaj (Raj Kumar Gaur) mesmerised the audience with devotional performances dedicated to Lord Shri Ram and Lord Hanuman.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including PWL Chairman Dayan Farooqui, CEO Akhil Gupta, Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Singh, former WFI President Brij Bhushan Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association President Karan Bhushan Singh.
Making a much-anticipated return after six years, the league, last held in 2019 before being halted by the pandemic, ensured this comeback met expectations by delivering excellent on-ground entertainment and maintaining the presence of celebrities.
Actress Zoya Afroz and Punjabi film star Sonam Bajwa attended the first semi-final, while Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan was present at the second semi-final. The final also saw expectations of several celebrities’ attendance, including Bigg Boss star Shehnaaz Gill, social media influencer Elvish Yadav, and Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer.
On the mat, Haryana Thunder secured their place in the final by defeating Punjab Royals in the first semi-final on Friday. Delhi Dangal Warriors made a remarkable comeback to beat Maharashtra Kesari in the second semi-final on Saturday. Beyond the results and celebrations, the league’s successful return stood out as its greatest achievement.
From day one, the packed stadium and continuous applause created an electrifying atmosphere, proving that the bond between wrestling and its supporters remains strong.
Even without prominent names like Geeta Phogat, Babita Phogat, and Bajrang Punia — who were integral to the league between 2015 and 2019 — the Pro Wrestling League maintained its momentum. Its return served as a timely reminder of wrestling’s true appeal.
The fast-paced matches, high-intensity competitions, and thrilling drama were enough to captivate fans, reinforcing the idea that the sport does not rely solely on star power. As the league reached its grand finale, it became clear that wrestling’s passion, energy, and competitive spirit are its biggest stars.
