New Delhi, July 2: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Thursday that fresh lychees from the Ummat Agri Allied Cooperative Society in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, have been exported to Oman for the first time.
In a post shared on the social media platform ‘X’, Goyal highlighted that this export is a result of leveraging market opportunities under the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
He emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards increasing farmers’ incomes, boosting agricultural exports, and enhancing the global recognition of Indian agricultural products. Goyal also praised the efforts of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for this achievement.
Last month, Goyal welcomed the first export of the famous Dehradun lychee from Uttarakhand to Italy. He noted that this would open new doors for Indian agricultural products in European markets.
He wrote on X, “The lychee from Devbhoomi has now become a favorite in Italy. With the support of APEDA, the renowned Dehradun lychee has been exported to Italy for the first time.”
Goyal stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Indian agricultural products are gaining global recognition, providing farmers with new opportunities for better income.
Dehradun lychee is known for its natural sweetness, attractive red color, delightful aroma, and excellent pulp. The region cultivates famous varieties such as Scented, Kalakattia, and Bedana.
Previously, the first export of the famous Tezpur lychee from Assam was sent to Dubai, opening new international market opportunities for fruit producers in Northeast India.
Grown in the Tezpur area of Sonitpur district, this lychee is renowned across the country for its sweetness, fragrance, and juicy pulp. The Tezpur lychee received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2014, officially recognizing the region’s unique climate and quality.
