Amritsar, February 12: Punjab Police has achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking. They have dismantled a cross-border narcotics smuggling network and arrested two active members involved in the operation.
Authorities seized 7 kilograms and 630 grams of heroin along with ₹21,800 in cash during the operation at the Cheherata police station in Amritsar. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Initial investigations revealed that the arrested suspects were in contact with a handler based in Dubai through virtual numbers. This handler facilitated the delivery of heroin across the border, providing instructions on pickup locations and the supply chain. He is reportedly linked to multiple drug networks and is also connected to a major NDPS case involving the seizure of 43 kilograms of heroin.
Punjab Police shared details of the operation on their official X handle, reaffirming their commitment to eradicating narcotics-related terrorism and drug trafficking, aiming for a safe and drug-free Punjab. Interrogations of the arrested smugglers are ongoing, and investigations have been intensified to identify other members of the network and their connections.
According to police, this operation is part of a broader campaign against drug abuse in Punjab, where law enforcement is actively apprehending drug traffickers and recovering significant quantities of narcotics.
Local residents have praised this success, noting that such actions help protect the youth from drug addiction.
