Thiruvananthapuram, June 23: PT Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and a member of the Rajya Sabha, has announced plans for a fun run aimed at raising awareness about the upcoming Asian Games.
In a recent conversation, Usha stated, “Before every Asian Games, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) organizes a fun run for Asian countries. Such an event has not yet taken place in India. We may have been approached in the past, but for various reasons, it did not happen. This time, they reached out to us, and the IOA is keen to host it in India.”
She added, “I spoke with the Kerala Olympic Association, and the president has agreed to organize this event. Our goal is to promote awareness about the Asian Games, which is always a positive initiative. We expect around 50,000 participants. Athletes should understand the significance of the Commonwealth Games. We will also award medals to 100 participants to inspire them about the Commonwealth Games. Cultural programs will also be part of the event.”
The IOA president mentioned that officials from the OCA and the organizing committee from Japan will be attending. The event will also see participation from the state governor, the chief minister, and the Union Minister of Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
PT Usha expressed her pride in hosting this event for the first time in India, specifically in her home state of Kerala. “As the head of the IOA, I am thrilled about organizing this event. We are receiving support from everyone, and I hope it will be a success,” she said.
The Asian Games 2026 are scheduled to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
