Raipur, August 26: Once upon a time, farmers faced devastating losses due to natural disasters without any support. Many were driven to despair, even contemplating suicide when crops failed. However, the current ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ has emerged as a blessing for farmers in Chhattisgarh. This year, farmers in Dhamtari have insured a remarkable 84,277.75 hectares of crops.
In Dhamtari district, around 81,000 farmers have participated in the crop insurance scheme, marking the highest figure in the last five years. This achievement not only reflects the growing acceptance of the scheme but also indicates an increasing awareness among farmers regarding risk management.
Farmers have taken advantage of the scheme to safeguard their crops. This surge demonstrates that they are becoming more vigilant and informed about the potential damages caused by natural calamities and unpredictable weather.
Farmers expressed relief, stating that they no longer worry about their crops in the face of disasters. The government provides adequate compensation for crop losses, significantly aiding in their recovery. Many farmers have expressed gratitude towards the central government for this support.
One farmer shared with a news agency, “The central government has implemented numerous schemes for us. The ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ is crucial. Whenever a natural disaster strikes and damages our crops, we receive compensation from the government. I have personally benefited from it. It is an excellent scheme.”
Another farmer remarked, “For small and medium farmers, the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ has been a blessing. I have availed of this scheme after my crops failed, which helped me overcome financial crises. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Dhamtari Collector Avinash Mishra noted that this year saw an increase in crop insurance compared to last year, with a growth of nearly 10 percent.
Agriculture officer Monish Sahu reported that approximately 81,000 farmers have insured their crops, with 9,300 more farmers covered than last year. There is a growing interest in the scheme, leading to a record number of crop insurance enrollments over the past five years.
