Quetta, April 22: In a show of solidarity, students from Bolan Medical College staged a protest outside their campus in Quetta on Wednesday. They demanded the safe return of Khadija Baloch, who was allegedly abducted by Pakistani security forces.
According to the Baloch Youth Committee (BYC), Khadija was forcibly taken from the girls’ hostel in Quetta on Tuesday and has since been missing without any information provided to her family or friends regarding her condition or whereabouts.
The BYC stated, “This protest aims to end enforced disappearances and hold the state accountable for its human rights violations. We also demand the immediate and safe release of Khadija Baloch.”
The committee emphasized that this incident is not isolated. The Pakistani state has a history of using enforced disappearances as a form of punishment against Baloch families, targeting students, wives, daughters, and previously victimized individuals. Khadija, already a widow, has now become a victim of this system.
The BYC has urged the people of Balochistan to unite against this alleged oppression.
The Baloch Women’s Forum (BWF) condemned the incident, stating that the abduction of a student from within an educational institution is a “blatant violation of human rights.” They highlighted that educational spaces, especially for women, are no longer safe.
The BWF remarked, “This incident reveals a terrifying reality: educational institutions are no longer secure. The abduction of a student from within a hostel is not a trivial matter; it reflects the environment in which Baloch female students are pursuing their studies amidst fear and insecurity.”
Supporting the students’ protest, the forum warned that continued silence, delays, or negligence regarding this case would escalate public anger and raise serious questions about law and justice.
The BWF has called on international human rights organizations and global entities to take immediate notice of this case, break the silence, and advocate for justice, accountability, and the safety of Baloch female students.
