Protests Disrupt Business in Connaught Place, Merchants Struggle to Pay Employees
Business owners in Connaught Place voice concerns over frequent protests disrupting operations and impacting employee wages.

Connaught Place, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Merchants operating in Connaught Place and its surrounding areas have expressed growing frustration over the impact of frequent protests on their businesses. On Thursday, they reported that these demonstrations severely disrupt operations, making it challenging to pay employees.
Ayush Chopra, owner of ‘Bhaape Da Hotel’ and ‘Minar Restaurant’, shared his concerns, stating that business activities often come to a halt days before a protest, as customers tend to stay indoors out of fear. He noted that even after the protests conclude, it takes several days for people to feel comfortable going out again, largely due to anxiety fueled by viral videos on social media.
Chopra emphasized that the financial burden does not solely affect larger businesses; small vendors also suffer significant losses. He suggested that protests should be relocated outside of Central Delhi to minimize disruption.
Verjesh Agarwal, who runs a Bengali sweet house and pastry shop, reported that business plummeted during the protests, dropping to less than 50% of normal levels. He highlighted that customer footfall decreased significantly over three to four days, compounded by traffic restrictions.
The Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) organized a major protest on October 10, which paralyzed Central Delhi. The government was forced to close several key routes to maintain law and order, further impacting the livelihoods of many small and large business owners in the area.
