
Mumbai, August 7: On Friday, a well-known businessman and former head of the Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat, David D’Souza, was shot dead by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle in Udupi district, Karnataka.
The incident occurred in front of St. Francis Xavier Church in Pillar village, causing panic in the area.
Initial reports indicate that two unidentified individuals arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire on D’Souza, and fled the scene. The attack instilled fear among local residents, who rushed to the site and transported the seriously injured businessman to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries en route.
D’Souza was a prominent figure in the Shirva area. In addition to serving as the head of the Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat, he was a successful entrepreneur running several businesses, including earthmoving and excavation services. His death has left the local community and business sector in shock.
Immediately after the incident, police from the Shirva and Padubidri stations arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. Senior police officials also reached the site to oversee the investigation.
A Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) team and a dog squad meticulously examined the area for forensic evidence and other clues to help identify the attackers.
Investigating officers are actively searching for the two suspects who fled immediately after the shooting. The police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations and interviewing witnesses.
