Ujjain, February 14: The sacred festival of Maha Shivratri will be celebrated across the country on February 15. In Ujjain, preparations at the Mahakal Temple are now complete.
Given the expected influx of devotees, both temple and district administration officials conducted an inspection of the temple. An executive magistrate was present during the visit. In a meeting held in the temple hall, responsibilities were assigned to officials by area, and duty charts were distributed.
First Administrator Kaushik of Mahakal Temple commented on the preparations for Maha Shivratri, stating, “The sacred festival is on February 15, and we anticipate a large number of devotees. Keeping this in mind, both the temple and district administrations have finalized their preparations. The executive magistrates assigned today have been briefed on all arrangements. Each must manage their sector to ensure that no devotee faces any inconvenience during their visit.”
He further noted that the number of devotees is expected to increase on February 15 and 16, with each magistrate already touring their sectors to make timely adjustments. According to temple administration, over 1 million devotees may visit the temple in just two days. Therefore, efforts are being made to streamline arrangements. Additionally, the temple doors will remain open for 44 hours, allowing devotees to witness the various adornments of the deity.
On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, special prayers will be held in four phases, continuing until the following day, February 16. Notably, the night of February 15 will be particularly significant, as the deity is adorned like a groom with floral garlands and heavy jewelry. Devotees from all corners of the country flock to the Mahakal Temple to witness the deity’s magnificent form.
