Preeti Jhangiani: From Modeling to Stardom in Mohabbatein

Mumbai, August 18: Preeti Jhangiani, known for her simplicity and innocence in the film “Mohabbatein,” made her big-screen debut in 2000, quickly rising to stardom. The film featured iconic actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jimmy Shergill, Uday Chopra, Sharmita Shetty, and Kim Sharma.

For Preeti, this beginning felt like a dream, as she had never aspired to be an actress. Surprisingly, she did not audition for the film that brought her recognition in Bollywood.

Born on August 18, 1980, in Mumbai to a Sindhi family, Preeti initially pursued modeling. In 1997, she got her first break in Rajshri Productions’ music album “Yeh Hai Prem,” which helped her gain recognition and led to appearances in various commercials.

Her film career began not in Hindi cinema but in South Indian films. In 1999, she acted in the Malayalam film “Mazhavil” and also appeared in the Telugu film “Thammudu.” This period marked the opening of Bollywood’s doors for her, and her journey to this point was quite unique.

In an interview, Preeti revealed that she received an unexpected call from Yash Raj Films, inviting her to meet Aditya Chopra. Remarkably, she did not audition for “Mohabbatein.”

The film was released in 2000, transforming Preeti’s life. She portrayed Kiran, who falls in love with Jimmy Shergill’s character, Karan Chaudhary. The film’s storyline and songs resonated with audiences, and Preeti’s innocent image captured their hearts. Her successful debut earned her the IIFA Award for “Star Debut of the Year – Female,” along with nominations for several other awards.

Following “Mohabbatein,” Preeti was not short of work. She starred in films like “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum,” “Aawara Pagal Deewana,” “Wah! Tera Kya Kehna,” “Baaz: A Bird in Danger,” “LOC Kargil,” “Aan: Men at Work,” “Victoria No. 203,” and “Chand Ke Paar Chalo.”

In addition to Hindi films, she acted in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, and Rajasthani films. However, she did not achieve the same level of success as she did with “Mohabbatein.”

Amid her career, Preeti also focused on marriage and family. She married actor Parvin Dabas on March 23, 2008, and they have two sons together. Afterward, she took a break from films but did not completely leave acting. In 2017, her Rajasthani film “Tawado: The Sunlight” was released, earning her critical acclaim and the Best Actress award. Later, she appeared in the web series “Kafas” and was seen in “Udaipur Files” in 2025.
