Patna, August 3: Following a decisive lead in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraj and the party’s candidate, described the outcome as a victory for the people of Bankipur rather than a personal triumph. He emphasized that this election was not just about selecting a legislator but sending a clear message to the BJP’s central leadership that Bihar needs an honest, capable, and principled Chief Minister.
In a conversation with the media during the counting process, Kishor stated that the voters of Bankipur have sent a strong message to the BJP leadership. He stressed that the leadership of Bihar should be entrusted to someone who can ensure education, employment, and good governance in the state. Kishor highlighted that his political mission is to prevent the youth of Bihar from having to migrate to other states for jobs.
“This election was not merely about electing a legislator. The public has conveyed to the BJP’s central leadership that a good person should be made Chief Minister in Bihar. The people have elected 202 legislators, so do not hand over the state’s leadership to someone with questionable character,” he asserted.
Kishor expressed gratitude to those who voted for him and pledged to work harder to win the trust of those who did not support him. He acknowledged that in a democracy, victories and defeats are common, but the future of Bihar and its youth is paramount. He criticized Bihar’s politics for being limited to issues of caste, religion, and free food, while the populace now seeks education, employment, and development.
He argued that if MPs from Gujarat can contribute to making a Prime Minister, then the aspirations of Bihar’s 130 million people should receive equal respect. Kishor urged the central government to create special development programs for Bihar and take concrete steps to prevent migration.
He noted that over one million youths from Bihar are still compelled to seek employment in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and other states. “No youth should have to leave their home and family for a job that pays between 10,000 to 15,000 rupees. Developing quality education, industry, and job opportunities in Bihar is the need of the hour,” he stated. Kishor clarified that his struggle is not against any individual but is a demand for better leadership.
He acknowledged that the BJP and NDA hold a clear majority, and thus the Chief Minister will come from that coalition. However, he insisted that the leadership must be in the hands of someone who can curb corruption, strengthen the education system, and prioritize the state’s development. Kishor claimed that the BJP’s three-decade stronghold weakened in just 30 days because voters chose to prioritize development over caste and religion.
He warned that if the government does not meet the public’s expectations, similar electoral outcomes will recur in the future. After his victory, Kishor mentioned that he would strive to live up to the trust and blessings bestowed upon him by the people of Bankipur.
He predicted that positive changes would begin to manifest in the region within the next two to three months. However, he also acknowledged that his election as a legislator would not transform Bankipur overnight, but there would certainly be solid initiatives towards improvement. He reiterated that this election was pivotal in determining the leadership of Bihar and the future of the state.
