Mumbai, April 28: Bharat Kapoor, known for instilling fear as a villain in Hindi cinema for decades, passed away on Monday. His last rites were conducted that evening at a crematorium near Sion Hospital.

Numerous actors from the Hindi film industry and close family members were present to pay their respects. Among them was Poonam Dhillon, who shared a touching tribute to the actor and reminisced about their film ‘Noori.’

Bharat Kapoor appeared in various films and played supporting roles, but ‘Noori’ marked a significant turning point in his career, establishing him as a recognized villain. The film starred Poonam Dhillon and Farooq Sheikh in lead roles, with Kapoor portraying the antagonist who disrupts their love story. In her tribute, Dhillon shared a post from the film, honoring Kapoor’s memory.

She wrote, “A gentleman, a great co-actor, a perfect family man, and a genuinely good person. He was a very handsome actor with a lovely voice. I have so much to say, but words fail me.” She further added, “What a landmark film it was that we did together.” In addition to Dhillon, producer-director Ashok Pandit also posted a photo of the actor to pay tribute.

Released in 1979, ‘Noori’ was the seventh highest-grossing film of the year. Its romantic storyline and tragic ending moved audiences deeply. Produced by Yash Chopra and directed by Manmohan Krishna, the film showcased a love story blossoming in the valleys of Kashmir, only to be threatened by villains. The song “Aaja Re O Mere Dilbar Aaja” from the film remains popular and is still cherished by many.

Notably, Bharat Kapoor gained recognition as a villain through this film, where he played the role of the antagonist Bashir Khan. ‘Noori’ was also Poonam Dhillon’s second biggest film, and its success marked a turning point in both their careers.
