New Delhi, August 11: Political tensions have escalated in Jharkhand following police action during a student march aimed at surrounding the assembly. Various political leaders have voiced their opinions regarding the students’ demands and the subsequent police response. Some have called for dialogue to resolve the issues, while others have targeted the Hemant Soren government, demanding an investigation.
Bihar government minister Dilip Jayaswal supported the call for a CBI inquiry, stating that if the government has done nothing wrong and there has been no manipulation, there should be no issue with conducting an investigation. He raised concerns that failing to investigate could lead to public distrust.
On the same issue, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi launched a sharp attack on the opposition. He noted that while some listen to students’ voices at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, a different approach is taken regarding the student protests in Jharkhand. He described this as the opposition’s “double standard.”
Naqvi emphasized that education is a concurrent subject, and it is the responsibility of both the central and state governments to address any irregularities in competitive examinations.
In Lucknow, BJP leader Neeraj Singh also criticized the Jharkhand government. He alleged that barbed wire was used during the students’ protests, along with water cannons and baton charges, resulting in injuries to several students. He questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi‘s absence, noting that while he attended a “Students’ Echo” event in Prayagraj, he did not listen to the grievances of students in Jharkhand.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sanjeev Jha stated that students are protesting for their demands and that such matters should be resolved through dialogue. He asserted that tear gas and baton charges are not permanent solutions to any problem. The government should engage with students to discuss their demands.
Leaders from the India Alliance also responded to the situation. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut remarked that if students are protesting for their demands, it is the responsibility of Chief Minister Hemant Soren to engage with them and seek solutions to their problems.
Meanwhile, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Vice President Gurunatham clarified the Congress party’s stance on the issue concerning Jharkhand students. He stated that the party has no hidden agenda regarding students and has urged the Jharkhand government to engage in dialogue with a delegation of students to understand their issues.
