NDA and Opposition Clash Over Jharkhand Student Protests in Parliament

New Delhi, August 11: Tensions escalated in Parliament during the monsoon session as NDA and opposition MPs confronted each other outside the Makardwar gate. Both sides held separate protests addressing various issues, notably the opposition’s selective outrage over the Jharkhand student movement and disruptions in Parliament.

The BJP-led NDA accused the opposition of obstructing proceedings, while the opposition demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah address the issue of police action against protesting students in the House.

NDA MPs were seen holding placards targeting opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “running away” from discussions on police actions against students. This protest coincided with the central government’s assertion that Home Minister Amit Shah was prepared to make a statement on the matter in Parliament.

Slogans such as “Don’t run away from discussing Home Minister” were displayed on placards, alleging that the opposition was deliberately avoiding discussions on police actions against students.

NDA MPs, brandishing banners and posters against the opposition, claimed that while the government was willing to discuss the student protests, the opposition coalition was attempting to disrupt parliamentary proceedings to evade the topic.

Some MPs condemned the opposition’s “silence” regarding police actions against peacefully protesting students in Jharkhand and demanded a statement from Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs staged protests, insisting that Home Minister Amit Shah should come to the House and address the situation. They chanted slogans like “Amit Shah, come to the House,” emphasizing that the Home Minister should personally address the police actions against the protesting students.

Congress MP Pawan Khera launched a sharp attack on the BJP and RSS, stating that discussions in Parliament are not possible without the Home Minister’s presence. He remarked that while Amit Shah claims to be a ‘man of steel,’ he has been avoiding the House. “These RSS members have always been cowards,” he added.

Khera asserted, “When our government comes to power, we will give them a fitting response. The existence of the RSS will come to an end.”

In defense of the Jharkhand government, Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh criticized the BJP for its stance. He stated, “You are in power but still unable to achieve anything. You talk about Jharkhand, where the government is working on this issue. Our leader Rahul Gandhi has said that students should not be suppressed and their concerns must be heard.”

Meanwhile, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma accused Rahul Gandhi of adopting a selective approach towards student-related issues, claiming that he has ignored the developments in Jharkhand.
