Mumbai, July 21: A political storm has erupted following comments made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut regarding Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Suryakant. His remarks came amid ongoing protests related to the NEET paper leak case. Raut publicly thanked Justice Suryakant on social media, attributing the renewed energy of nationwide movements to him.
In a post on the platform X, Raut stated that the CJI has revitalized the country’s social and political movements, which is why large-scale protests are currently taking place. His statement has sparked sharp reactions from all political parties, intensifying the nationwide debate surrounding the paper leak controversy.
This statement from Raut surfaced against the backdrop of rising political tensions in the national capital, where thousands gathered for a ‘Parliament March’ despite police restrictions. Earlier, Raut had criticized the central government in the context of social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s ongoing hunger strike. He accused the administration of fearing the youth and suppressing democratic protests through force.
Referring to the actions taken against protesters, Raut addressed the youth gathered at Jantar Mantar, noting that the government initially dismissed prominent voices like Sonam Wangchuk and Abhijit Dipke as minor inconveniences. He remarked that the government believed it could crush these activists like small insects, but the so-called ‘cockroaches’ stood firm, rallying support from people across the nation.
Raut condemned the government’s decision to deny permission for peaceful rallies, asserting that a true democratic government engages in dialogue with protesters rather than obstructing their marches or forcibly hospitalizing activists like Sonam Wangchuk under police pressure. He emphasized that the government should directly address the grievances of the youth and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to satisfy the younger generation.
In response to the protests at Jantar Mantar and the opposition’s demands for the education minister’s resignation, BJP minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule launched a fierce attack on the organizers. He alleged that the ‘cockroach’ protests were actually a political stunt aimed at defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Bawankule described the ongoing protests as a mere drama, with some youth participating out of frustration. He questioned whether he or Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had leaked the exam paper. While he welcomed constructive suggestions for reform, he insisted that the demand for the minister’s resignation was purely politically motivated.
