New Delhi, September 3: Political tensions are rising in Punjab following the removal of Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s name from the draft voter list during the SIR process. Chadha has accused the ruling party of political vendetta. However, members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other opposition parties have criticized him for his claims.
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated, “Everyone knows that the SIR process is managed by the BJP government through the Election Commission. The state government has no role in this. Such statements only reflect their petty politics.”
Kakkar further emphasized, “He should direct his questions to the BJP and clarify where he actually resides—Punjab, Delhi, or Mumbai. At least Raghav Chadha is a sitting MP. His name being removed has become a major news story, but think about the countless voiceless individuals whose names are removed without their knowledge.”
Congress MP Dharmveer Gandhi from Patiala commented, “I won’t say much about Raghav Chadha. You probably know everything about him. He was part of AAP for a long time and soon became a key member. For his political gain, he left AAP and joined the BJP with five or six others.”
Samajwadi Party MP Ramashankar Rajbhar remarked, “Now Raghav Chadha has become a part of the BJP. If he wears Delhi’s ‘chaddi,’ how will he remain in Punjab?”
He added, “The SIR process has caused significant damage to the BJP, as its voters are typically educated and affluent. Many of these voters have registered in multiple places. The BJP introduced SIR to remove names from certain castes and classes. While they succeeded in Bengal, they have failed in Maharashtra, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Here, the opposite has occurred; their voters who were registered in multiple locations are now left with just one.”
Rajbhar claimed, “In every assembly, the BJP has lost around 15,000 to 20,000 votes. Now, even their own MPs must prove their citizenship in this country. It’s astonishing that military heroes cannot prove their residency, and prominent leaders are struggling as well. The BJP has trapped itself in its own web. Their peak has been reached; now they are destined for decline.”
Earlier, Raghav Chadha stated, “The AAP government in Punjab has brought its vendetta politics to the draft voter list. I am the current Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, and my voter ID is registered in Mohali. Yet, my name appears as ‘shifted’ in the draft list. This does not seem like a mere clerical error; it clearly indicates a political motive.”
