Police Encounter in Gonda: One Criminal Injured, Another Arrested

Lucknow, March 7: A police encounter occurred late Friday night in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in one criminal being shot in the leg and another being apprehended. The police recovered an illegal firearm, a motorcycle, and ₹58,000 in cash from the suspects. This operation was a collaborative effort involving the Special Operations Group (SOG), surveillance teams, and Nawabganj police.

According to Gonda police, on March 2, a group of criminals kidnapped Ankit Yadav from the Nawabganj police station area. They demanded ₹2 lakh from his family for his release and subsequently asked for an additional ₹3 lakh. Upon receiving this information, the police took immediate action and began searching for the culprits.

To uncover the incident and arrest the criminals, the police formed four teams. The SOG, surveillance, and Nawabganj police were actively pursuing the suspects. Late on March 6, police received a tip-off indicating that the accused were in the vicinity. Acting on this information, the police set up a blockade.

Upon noticing the police, the criminals attempted to flee and opened fire. In the ensuing exchange, a criminal named Vikas Mishra was shot in the leg. He was apprehended at the scene and has since been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

Additionally, another suspect, Saurabh Dubey, was arrested on-site. During the search, police found an illegal firearm, cartridges, a motorcycle, and ₹58,000 in stolen cash in their possession.

The police revealed that these criminals had previously collaborated with others to kidnap Ankit Yadav. However, upon realizing the police were closing in, they abandoned the victim and fled.

Records indicate that both arrested suspects have multiple criminal cases registered against them in Ayodhya and Basti districts. Currently, Nawabganj police are taking legal action against both individuals and are continuing their search for their accomplices.
