Police Encounter in Ghaziabad Leads to Arrest of Two Criminals, Two Others Escape

Ghaziabad, August 23: In a dramatic police encounter on Sunday, officers from the SWAT and surveillance teams engaged with criminals in the Sihani Gate area. During the exchange, two suspects were injured by gunfire, while two accomplices managed to flee into the darkness.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ziauddin Ahmed, a tip-off was received on the night of August 22 that some criminals were traveling in an auto-rickshaw, planning to commit a crime. Acting on this information, the SWAT and surveillance teams, along with Sihani Gate police, initiated a checking operation. They spotted a suspicious auto-rickshaw and attempted to stop it, but the suspects fled, abandoning the vehicle and escaping on foot.

While fleeing, the suspects opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing response, two of the criminals were shot in the legs. The injured suspects have been identified as Shakeel and Pawan. Meanwhile, their two accomplices took advantage of the darkness to escape, and police are currently searching for them.

Authorities recovered two illegal firearms, cartridges, two gold earrings, and the auto-rickshaw used in the crime from the injured suspects. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being involved in several previous theft incidents. Police have also uncovered their criminal backgrounds. The injured suspects have been admitted to a hospital for treatment, while police teams are actively pursuing the escaped criminals. Legal proceedings are underway.

Earlier, on August 21, police in Loni arrested a wanted criminal during an encounter. Officers were checking suspicious individuals and vehicles near the Nithora underpass when they signaled a motorcycle rider to stop. The rider attempted to flee, but his motorcycle skidded. He then fired at the police team, resulting in a gunshot wound to his leg. The suspect, identified as Sachin, confessed to breaking into a house in Giri Market on the night of August 20 to commit theft.
