PM Modi Expresses Condolences Over Tragic Temple Incident in Bihar

New Delhi, August 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday that families of each victim in the unfortunate incident at the Ashok Dham temple in Bihar’s Lakhisarai will receive ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shared the announcement on social media, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared a relief amount of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased in the unfortunate incident in Lakhisarai. The injured will receive ₹50,000.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi expressed his sorrow over the deaths caused by a stampede at the temple, which claimed the lives of seven individuals.

The PMO posted on social media, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property due to the stampede in Lakhisarai, Bihar. My condolences are with the affected families during this difficult time. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is assisting those impacted.”

At least seven people lost their lives, and a dozen others were injured in the chaos that ensued as a large number of devotees gathered for prayers and rituals on the third Monday of the sacred month of Sawan.

Nitish Kumar, the national president of the Janata Dal (United) and former Chief Minister of Bihar, expressed profound sorrow over the stampede at the Ashok Dham temple. He described the incident as extremely tragic and heartbreaking, stating he was deeply pained by the news of the devotees’ deaths.

Kumar extended his condolences to the grieving families of the deceased, praying that God grants peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved. He also wished for the swift recovery of the injured and emphasized that the state government and administration must ensure proper treatment for the injured and provide all possible assistance to the affected families.
