New Delhi, 30 December: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over reports of an attack targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence. Speaking on Tuesday, the Prime Minister appealed for peace and emphasised that any disputes should be resolved through diplomatic means.

Russia claimed that 91 Ukrainian drones attempted to attack Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region north of Moscow. In response, PM Modi conveyed deep worry about these reports and described such attacks as unacceptable. He stressed that ongoing diplomatic efforts remain the best way to end hostilities and achieve lasting peace.

Highlighting the importance of dialogue, PM Modi urged all concerned parties to focus on diplomatic initiatives and avoid actions that could undermine these efforts. He stated, “I am deeply concerned by reports of an attack on the Russian President’s residence. The diplomatic efforts underway to end hostility and secure peace are the right path. We appeal to all parties to pay attention to these efforts and refrain from any actions that might weaken them.”

According to media reports, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a television statement that 91 long-range drones attacked around midnight between Sunday and Monday. However, no damage was caused as all drones were shot down. Lavrov warned that Russia reserves the right to respond appropriately at the right time.

Ukraine has denied any involvement in such an attack. Russian media reported that Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov informed former US President Donald Trump about the incident, leaving him “stunned.”
