
New Delhi, March 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, over the phone, extending heartfelt Eid greetings to him and the people of Qatar. During the conversation, PM Modi reaffirmed the strong ties between the two nations. This discussion took place amid ongoing tensions in West Asia and attacks on regional energy infrastructure.
On the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “I spoke with my brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and conveyed my warm Eid wishes to him and the people of Qatar.”
In his post, PM Modi further emphasized, “I reiterated that we stand in solidarity with Qatar and strongly condemn the attacks on the region’s energy infrastructure. I expressed gratitude for the care and support provided to the Indian community and hope for lasting peace and stability in the region. We advocate for safe and free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.”
PM Modi’s message comes at a time when tensions in the Gulf region are at a peak due to the Israel-Iran conflict in West Asia. He reiterated India’s strong solidarity with Qatar and condemned the attacks on regional energy infrastructure, which pose a threat to global energy security. Additionally, PM Modi praised Qatar for ensuring the safety of the Indian community, where a significant number of Indian citizens are employed.
In recent days, PM Modi has also engaged in similar discussions with several leaders from West Asia, including UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, and the Crown Prince of Kuwait. All conversations have emphasized the importance of safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, restoring regional peace, and promoting dialogue and diplomacy.
