New Delhi, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the ‘Somnath Amrit Mahotsav’ held in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district on Monday. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “I feel blessed to be here.”
In a post on the social media platform X, he wrote, “Jai Somnath! I feel blessed to be here. We are celebrating 75 years since this reconstructed temple opened its doors to devotees.”
He further mentioned that visiting the holy site on the 75th anniversary of the temple’s inauguration was a divine experience. The enthusiasm and fervor of the devotees along the temple route left him overwhelmed. “I am living this moment, reminiscent of the experience of India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, during the temple’s inauguration,” he added. The atmosphere of the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav radiated incredible energy.
PM Modi noted that devotion can be felt in every corner of Somnath. Countless people gathered to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the temple opening its doors to devotees. “That day was truly a milestone in India’s civilizational journey,” he remarked.
During the event, the Indian Air Force’s ‘Surya Kiran’ aerobatics team showcased aerial performances at the Somnath temple. PM Modi also participated in a special ‘Maha Puja’ at the temple.
The celebrations at the historic Somnath temple commemorated its restoration and the inauguration by Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1951. Before the religious ceremonies, PM Modi conducted a roadshow after arriving in Somnath from Jamnagar. He had stayed in Jamnagar after arriving in Gujarat on Sunday night. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi were also present during the roadshow.
Thousands gathered along the 1.5-kilometer route from the helipad to Veer Hamirji Circle near the temple to welcome the Prime Minister. As his convoy passed, supporters waved flags and chanted slogans, while artists from various states, including West Bengal, performed traditional cultural dances at designated spots along the route.
