PM Modi Celebrates 11 Years of Social Security and Pension Schemes

New Delhi, May 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the government’s commitment to dignity and financial security for the people of India during a recent address. He noted that social security schemes, which have completed 11 years, reflect this dedication.

On May 9, 2015, PM Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). These initiatives aim to provide affordable social security and economic protection, particularly to the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable sections of society.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi remarked, “Today, 11 years ago, the NDA government initiated significant social security and pension schemes. These programs demonstrate our commitment to bringing dignity, trust, and financial security into the lives of the people of India.”

He shared a post from MyGov India, emphasizing that the PMJJBY and PMSBY have positively impacted people’s lives at the grassroots level. The Prime Minister also noted that the Atal Pension Yojana has proven highly beneficial, helping many elderly individuals lead secure lives.

Modi stated that these schemes reflect the government’s vision of making social security accessible and inclusive for all, particularly benefiting women.

To date, over 945 million enrollments have been recorded across the three social security schemes. As of April 30, more than 274.3 million people have joined the PMJJBY, while over 580.9 million have enrolled in the PMSBY. Additionally, more than 90.4 million individuals are part of the Atal Pension Yojana.

Under the PMJJBY, over 1.07 million families have received claims exceeding ₹215 billion. Meanwhile, the PMSBY has provided assistance of approximately ₹36.6 billion to over 184,000 families.

According to the government, these schemes aim to protect individuals from life’s uncertainties and ensure long-term economic stability.
