New Delhi, August 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day as inspirational and thought-provoking. In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister stated that the President’s thoughts reflect the strength of the nation and the aspirations of every Indian.
Modi emphasized that the President’s message inspires all citizens to work with renewed commitment and determination towards building a developed India.
In her address on Friday, President Murmu paid tribute to the freedom fighters and highlighted the role of citizens in nation-building, the tragedy of partition, democracy, social justice, and the development that has taken place in the country over the past decade.
She noted that India was freed from the shackles of colonialism on August 15, 1947, and that the citizens became the architects of a free India. The President appreciated all citizens contributing to nation-building, including students, teachers, scientists, engineers, doctors, healthcare workers, laborers, and farmers.
She stated that India is advancing on the path of modern development while embracing its rich heritage and the ideals of the freedom struggle. The President invoked the Vedic message of ‘Vayam Rashtra Jagraya’ and called on citizens to remain ever vigilant towards the nation.
President Murmu also referenced the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, noting that communal violence led to the displacement and suffering of millions. She recalled the challenge of integrating over 550 princely states into India at the time of independence and acknowledged the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
She remarked that today, individuals from ordinary backgrounds are making extraordinary contributions across various fields. This reinforces the belief that every person in today’s India can dream big and achieve those dreams.
Highlighting the inclusive development over the past decade, she mentioned that the country has prioritized the coordination of heritage and development, removing many old barriers that hindered progress.
The President noted that more than 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty. Under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, nearly 590 million account holders are now connected to the banking system, including over 320 million women. Additionally, food security has been ensured for 800 million people through the provision of free rations.
Prime Minister Modi deemed the President’s address particularly significant as the nation moves forward with the resolve of nation-building and a developed India on the occasion of its 80th Independence Day.
