Ranchi, August 14: Students in Jharkhand, who have been protesting for 21 days against irregularities in competitive exams, held a demonstration on Friday evening. The protest, termed the “Aakrosh Yatra,” started from the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and proceeded to Albert Ekka Chowk. During this event, students burned effigies of four state ministers, expressing their anger over the ministers’ remarks regarding their movement.
The protesting students targeted ministers Sudivya Kumar, Deepika Pandey Singh, Irfan Ansari, and Shilpi Neha Tirkey. They voiced that the comments made by the ministers had hurt their sentiments. The students emphasized that they are conducting their protest peacefully and urged the government to take their demands seriously. Throughout the march, they chanted slogans related to their various demands, causing a stir in the area for some time. The students declared that their protest would continue until the government takes concrete actions on their primary demands.
In a significant announcement, the protesting students revealed plans to organize a large Tricolor March in Ranchi on the occasion of Independence Day. According to the students, the march will commence from the protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, passing through Lalpur and Nucleus Mall, and concluding at Albert Ekka Chowk. Student leaders claimed that participants from all 24 districts of Jharkhand would join the Tricolor March. They have urged fellow students to arrive at the protest site starting Friday evening. The march is being organized by the Reform Forum.
The forum has called upon various student organizations to participate. The students assured that the Tricolor March would be entirely peaceful, aiming to democratically convey their demands to the government on Independence Day. The protesting students are raising concerns regarding the CGL exam conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission and the 11th to 13th Joint Competitive Examination of the JPSC. Their key demands include the cancellation of the exams and a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Students allege that there have been significant discrepancies in the exams. They claim that while the government has acknowledged some of their demands, there has been no clear decision on the major issues. Through the Tricolor March, they intend to communicate that their protest is not against any political party but rather a call for a transparent and fair recruitment process.
