New Delhi, August 14: On the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, outlining significant advancements in various sectors including economic growth, digital infrastructure, social welfare, women’s empowerment, youth engagement, environmental protection, and foreign policy.
The President noted that over 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty. Under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, the world’s largest financial inclusion program, nearly 590 million account holders have joined the banking system, with over 320 million being women.
She highlighted the provision of free rations for 800 million people, ensuring food security. Additionally, the Ayushman Bharat scheme has provided free medical services up to ₹500,000 annually for 600 million individuals.
President Murmu stated that initiatives like the Kisan Samman Nidhi and Kisan Credit Cards have supported farmers involved in agriculture, dairy, poultry, fishery, and beekeeping.
She emphasized that a growing awareness of cultural pride strengthens the nation’s sovereignty, as India progresses by harmonizing heritage with development.
The President mentioned that India has developed the world’s largest and most advanced digital infrastructure, enabling digital payments even in small village shops and street vendors. More than half of the world’s real-time digital transactions occur in India.
Using technology, the government has transparently delivered welfare services to citizens.
She noted unprecedented expansion in modern infrastructure, including highways, waterways, railways, and airways, creating new opportunities for enterprises, generating jobs, and boosting investor confidence.
The economy is advancing as one of the fastest-growing major economies globally.
President Murmu asserted that while pursuing modern development, India is also making significant contributions to environmental protection. The growth of renewable energy has accelerated in recent years.
She stressed the importance of ensuring that future generations have access to natural resources, advocating for the preservation of rich natural assets. Environmental conservation is a part of India’s tradition.
The President stated that India’s foreign policy is based on national interests. To enhance economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations, India has signed free trade agreements with several countries.
She expressed happiness at the impressive performance of girls in education, highlighting the increasing economic independence of women.
With over 10 million women members in self-help groups, approximately two-thirds of the beneficiaries of the Mudra scheme are women entrepreneurs.
President Murmu pointed out that 65% of the population is under the age of 35, making this youth demographic India’s most valuable asset.
She mentioned that a young team with an average age of just 28 recently launched a rocket, marking a new phase in space exploration.
The world’s major enterprises are impressed by the talent and dedication of Indian youth, appointing them to leadership roles. This generation enhances India’s reputation on the global stage.
The President emphasized that students are the architects of India’s future. Just as national security requires unity from the government and society, collective efforts are essential for the safety of students’ present and future.
The government is making unprecedented investments to promote sports, yielding positive results as Indian athletes reach new heights in international competitions.
She noted that the government has taken numerous steps to improve the lives of senior citizens, urging society to remain sensitive to their dignity and well-being.
President Murmu expressed pride in India’s tradition of triumphing over forces against humanity.
She highlighted the achievement of making India Naxal-free, fostering an atmosphere of enthusiasm in previously affected areas, and promoting inclusive development. Events like the Bastar Olympics have seen significant participation from athletes and artists.
The President mentioned that 12 forts linked to the Maratha military tradition were added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List last year, and this year, Sarnath, the site of Buddha’s first sermon, was also included.
She concluded by stating that the true goal of a developed India is the progress and welfare of all its citizens.
President Murmu called upon all Indians to dedicate themselves to the national mission of transforming a free India into a developed India.
