PM Modi Calls Budget 2026 a Historic Boost for Small Traders and India’s Future

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026 on Sunday, marking the second full budget of the Modi government’s third term. The budget included significant announcements across various sectors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now shared his views on the budget.

Describing the budget as historic, PM Modi highlighted that it reflects the empowerment of India’s women and their vital role in the economy. He noted that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set a new record by presenting the budget for the ninth consecutive time. According to the Prime Minister, this budget represents the aspirations of 140 crore Indians and strengthens the ongoing reform journey, providing a clear roadmap for a developed India.

PM Modi said the budget is designed with the future in mind, offering substantial benefits to small traders. He called it a budget that will accelerate the pace of a developed India and serve as a highway of opportunities. The budget, he stated, realises current dreams and fortifies the foundation for a bright future. It lays a strong base for India’s ambitious vision to become a developed nation by 2047.

Highlighting India’s reform momentum, the Prime Minister said this budget will inject fresh energy and speed. It opens the skies for youth to soar and positions India to become the world’s third-largest economy. The budget, he added, will bolster India’s global standing and enhance its role as a reliable democratic partner and quality supplier in international markets.

PM Modi emphasized that the budget is rooted in trust-based governance and a human-centric economic framework. It balances the reduction of fiscal deficit and inflation control with increased capital expenditure and robust economic growth. He pointed out that recent major trade deals have primarily benefited the youth and MSMEs, and the budget includes key steps to support these sectors further.

The Prime Minister described the budget as not only addressing today’s needs but also strengthening the foundation for a developed India by 2047. Terming it the “highway of opportunities,” he said India aims to move beyond being the fastest-growing economy to becoming the third-largest globally. The budget presents an ambitious roadmap to boost Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. It also provides unprecedented support to emerging sunrise sectors.

PM Modi mentioned the recent large trade deals often called the “mother of all deals” and assured that the budget contains important measures to ensure maximum benefits reach the youth and MSMEs. Infrastructure development is a key focus, with initiatives including dedicated freight corridors, expansion of national waterways, construction of high-speed rail corridors, and special attention to developing Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Additionally, promoting municipal bonds aims to create a strong economic base for urban areas. Collectively, these steps will accelerate progress towards a developed India.
