Piyush Goyal Urges Liechtenstein Firms to Tap India’s Growing Opportunities

New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a roundtable discussion with representatives of companies from Liechtenstein, urging them to capitalise on the opportunities arising under the $100 billion investment commitment made by European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member countries in India.

In an ex-post statement, Goyal said, “The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) is not merely a trade pact but a framework to boost investment, technology partnerships, skill development, and strengthen value chains.”

The Union Minister highlighted that opportunities extend across diverse sectors such as precision engineering, clean energy, smart infrastructure, advanced materials, digital services, and financial services.

He encouraged Liechtenstein businesses to view India as a long-term base and leverage the prospects emerging from the $100 billion investment commitment pledged by EFTA countries. According to the agreement, this investment over 15 years is expected to generate around ten lakh direct jobs in India.

Goyal also visited the headquarters of the Hilti Group in Liechtenstein and met with its CEO, Jahangir Doongaji. He noted, “Considering the group’s presence in India’s construction sector for over 25 years, discussions focused on promoting localisation, enhancing value addition, and increasing global shipments from India, aligning with our manufacturing and export growth goals.”

The minister further discussed technology collaboration for secure and smart infrastructure supported by investment expansion, accelerated innovation, and strong domestic capacity building.

Earlier, Goyal held talks with Liechtenstein’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabine Monauni to enhance cooperation in trade, innovation, and clean technology. The India-EFTA TEPA officially came into force in October 2025, covering Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

Goyal’s two-day trade dialogue in Brussels aimed at taking decisive steps towards finalising the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). An official statement said the Indian delegation sought zero-duty access for labour-intensive sectors like textiles, leather, garments, gems and jewellery, and handicrafts.
