
Singapore, August 21: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening economic partnerships with Singapore. He stated that India is dedicated to elevating its economic relations not just with Singapore but across Asia. Goyal highlighted the importance of robust business partnerships and investment cooperation between the industries of both nations.
Speaking at the India-Singapore Business Forum, Goyal addressed alumni and students from the non-profit business school INSEAD, along with Singaporean entrepreneurs and Indian industry representatives. He emphasized India’s strong economic progress and investment potential during his discussions with INSEAD professor Sameer Haseja.
In a post on the social media platform X, Goyal wrote, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Indian government is continuously reforming to enhance ease of doing business, attract investments, and create an industry-friendly environment.”
He noted that India is now among the fastest-growing major economies in the world, offering attractive opportunities for global investors.
Previously, Goyal mentioned that new opportunities are being created for Indian farmers and the food processing industry in Singapore, the ASEAN region, and the Australian market.
Goyal participated in the APEDA-FairPrice roadshow and store-based promotional event alongside Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Gan Siow Huang and other dignitaries. He shared on X that this initiative promotes organic products, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen goods, dairy products, cashews, rice, coarse grain-based products, and other food items from various sectors of India to Singaporean consumers.
The minister also met with Sopanendu Mohanty, CEO of the Global Finance and Technology Network, a global consulting and investment organization based in Singapore. They discussed strengthening India-Singapore cooperation in emerging areas of financial innovation, technology, and the digital economy.
During the meeting, they explored collaboration possibilities between India’s rapidly developing financial system and Singapore’s global financial and technology network. Goyal stated that the combined capabilities of both countries could pave the way for new economic opportunities.
He also met with Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure, to discuss collaboration opportunities in the infrastructure sector.
Meanwhile, Piyush Goyal participated in the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable Conference alongside Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada. In this high-level meeting, ministers from both countries discussed strengthening cooperation in areas such as investment, the digital economy, technology, skill development, connectivity, and sustainable development.
