Zelensky Urges U.S. for Patriot Missile Support Amid Ongoing Russian Attacks

New Delhi, August 21: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated his urgent request for missile support, specifically for the Patriot missile system. He called on the United States to make a swift decision regarding this matter, emphasizing Ukraine’s readiness to purchase the necessary weapons.

Zelensky took to social media platform X to state, “We need missiles for the Patriot system, and only our partner countries can provide them. We are not asking for any free gifts. Ukraine is prepared to buy the weapons we need. The most important thing is that decisions are made, starting with the United States. I am grateful to all who are helping save lives in Ukraine.”

He highlighted that enhancing air defense and protection against ballistic missiles is among Ukraine’s top priorities before winter sets in.

Zelensky expressed hope that the defense ministry and security agencies would work in complete coordination. It is crucial to review all agreements made with partner countries to assess what has been implemented and what remains pending.

He noted that Yevheny Khmara has significant experience in conducting deep and long-range operations, gained during his time with Ukraine’s Security Service (SSU). Zelensky is confident that the number of such operations will increase and trusts that Khmara will continue to monitor this area personally.

The situation in Ukraine remains dire, with ongoing deadly assaults from Russia. Just late Wednesday night, Russia inflicted significant destruction across Ukraine.

Zelensky reported that Russia had been preparing for these attacks for a long time, employing various weapons, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, to maximize damage to civilian infrastructure. Areas around Kyiv, as well as the Odesa and Chernihiv regions, have suffered considerable losses.

He mentioned that several residential buildings in the capital, Kyiv, have been damaged, including a high-rise where the upper floors were completely destroyed. Additionally, a children’s hospital and a school have also sustained damage.
