Piyush Goyal Discusses Investment Opportunities in India with Japanese Business Leaders

Tokyo, August 26: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Wednesday that he engaged in discussions with top business and financial leaders in Japan about increasing investments in India across various sectors, including trade, mobility, industry, banking, and insurance.

On the third day of his visit to Japan, Goyal met with senior officials from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), and Nippon Life Insurance.

During a meeting with Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s President and CEO Toshimitsu Imae, Goyal explored opportunities to enhance the company’s participation in India’s trade, mobility, and industrial sectors.

He emphasized leveraging India’s cost competitiveness and strengthening the country’s role as a global export hub during the discussions.

Additionally, Goyal met with Yoshihiro Hayakutome, Deputy President of SMBC Group, to discuss opportunities for increased investment and collaboration in the banking sector, further solidifying India-Japan financial relations.

Goyal also conversed with Yasushi Itagaki, Deputy Chairman of MUFG, and other senior officials about enhancing cooperation in banking, commercial finance, and investment between India and Japan.

On social media platform ‘X’, Goyal stated, “India’s dynamic financial sector offers significant opportunities for deep partnerships with Japan’s leading financial institutions.”

In a meeting with Minoru Kimura, Managing Executive Officer and Global Business Head of Nippon Life Insurance, Goyal discussed enhancing collaboration in the insurance and financial services sectors.

He noted that there are substantial opportunities for increased cooperation in India’s rapidly expanding insurance market.

These discussions with Japanese companies come at a time when India is striving to strengthen its economic and investment ties with Japan and attract greater participation from Japanese companies and financial institutions in key sectors of the Indian economy.
