Your Provident Fund (PF) account is more than just a statutory retirement savings account—it also acts as a financial cushion during emergencies. While 12% of your monthly salary is deposited into your PF account, your employer contributes an equal amount. But do you know how much balance is currently in your account? If not, don’t worry. You can now check your PF balance easily from the comfort of your home using any of these four convenient methods.

1. Check via SMS

One of the most straightforward ways to check your PF balance is by sending an SMS. However, make sure that your mobile number is registered with the EPFO.

  • How to do it:
Type EPFOHO UAN HIN and send it to 7738299899.

    • “UAN” is your Universal Account Number.

    • “HIN” stands for Hindi language. You can use language codes like ENG for English, TAM for Tamil, etc.

You’ll receive an SMS with your PF balance details shortly.

2. Check by Giving a Missed Call

This is considered the easiest method among all.

  • How to do it:
Just give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.

You’ll receive an SMS with your latest PF account balance within a few seconds.

3. Check on the EPFO Official Website

You can also log into the EPFO portal to view your complete PF passbook and transaction history.

  • Steps to follow:

    1. Visit https://www.epfindia.gov.in.

    2. Click on the ‘For Employees’ section under Services.

    3. Select ‘Member Passbook’.

    4. Log in using your UAN and password, and enter the captcha code.

    5. Once logged in, your PF balance and detailed statement will be visible.

This method is ideal for those who want to download or print their PF statements.

4. Check via the Umang App

The Umang App offers a quick way to view your EPFO details on your smartphone.

  • How to use it:

    1. Open the Umang app and log in.

    2. Navigate to the EPFO section.

    3. Select ‘View Passbook’.

    4. Enter your UAN number.

    5. Verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Once verified, your PF balance and passbook will be displayed instantly.

✅ Which Method is the Best?

While all methods are reliable, giving a missed call is the fastest and easiest way to check your PF balance—especially for users without internet access or app usage experience. However, for detailed statements, the EPFO website and Umang app are better options.
