New Delhi, July 15: Wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in India saw a remarkable increase of 24.1% in June, reaching 388,144 units. This figure compares favorably to 312,851 units sold during the same month last year, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Wednesday.
The data indicates that the utility vehicle (UV) segment continues to thrive, with a year-on-year growth rate of 19.9%, totaling 217,228 units sold in June.
Sales of passenger cars also rose significantly, climbing 15.7% to 98,610 units. Meanwhile, van sales increased by 9.5%, reaching 10,230 units.
The two-wheeler category maintained strong momentum, with manufacturers dispatching 1,851,400 units to dealers in June, marking an 18.6% increase from 1,561,283 units in the same month last year.
Scooters emerged as the fastest-growing segment within two-wheelers, with domestic sales soaring by 39.1% to 744,823 units. In contrast, motorcycle sales rose by 6.4% to 1,056,422 units, while moped sales surged by 50.4% to 50,155 units due to a lower base.
Sales of three-wheeler vehicles to dealers increased by 26.1%, reaching 77,951 units, compared to 61,828 units in June of the previous year.
In June, sales of passenger carrier vehicles rose by 25%, totaling 64,181 units, while goods carrier vehicle sales increased by 29.4% to 11,828 units.
Electric three-wheelers also recorded strong growth, with e-rickshaw sales climbing by 52.4% to 1,590 units.
According to SIAM’s data, vehicle exports remained robust in June, with total exports rising by 34% to 673,105 units. The export of two-wheelers saw a significant increase of 40.2%, reaching 543,684 units.
Three-wheeler exports also grew by 39.7% to 51,950 units, while passenger vehicle exports remained stable at 76,601 units.
