Parents of IIT Bombay Student Demand Independent Inquiry into Sons Death
The parents of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode have filed a petition for an independent investigation into his tragic death.

Pune, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : The parents of Sahil Wakode, a former student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, have approached the Bombay High Court seeking an independent investigation into their son’s death. They filed a writ petition on Saturday, asking for the preservation of CCTV footage and other evidence related to the incident.
Sahil, a second-year B.Tech student in the Energy Science and Engineering department, was found hanging in his hostel room on the evening of September 18. This tragic event occurred just hours after he was caught using his mobile phone during mid-semester exams.
The Mumbai Crime Branch is currently investigating the case and has recorded statements from approximately 60 individuals, including the accused professor, Surya Narayan Dula. During questioning, Dula denied several allegations and claimed he merely instructed Sahil to leave the examination hall after observing him using his phone.
Sahil’s parents have alleged that Professor Dula subjected their son to harassment. The Crime Branch has probed Dula regarding events leading up to Sahil’s death and their conversations. Dula stated that he saw Sahil attempting to hide his phone and simply asked him to leave the exam room with his paper.
The court will hear this case on November 2, 2026, as the family continues to seek justice for their son.
