Opposition Lawmaker Accuses BJP of Distracting Public Amidst Political Turmoil
SP MP Avadhesh Prasad criticizes BJP for historical distractions amid political challenges, highlighting recent rallies and controversies.

New Delhi, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Socialist Party MP Avadhesh Prasad has launched a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of attempting to divert public attention by resurrecting historical issues. His comments come in response to the recent ‘India’ bloc rally, statements from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the arrest of prominent party member Azam Khan by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
During the rally held at Delhi’s Ram Leela Maidan, Prasad countered BJP’s claims about empty seats at the event. “They must be wearing glasses that only show emptiness,” he remarked, asserting that the crowd was as dense in the venue as it was on the streets outside. “There was barely any space left to stand. This was a historic gathering, unprecedented in size.”
Prasad emphasized that the rally was not aimed at undermining anyone but was a stand for the preservation of the Constitution and democracy. Supporters traveled from all corners of the country to participate.
Responding to Amit Shah’s remarks about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Prasad stated that such issues are now in the past. “Bringing them up will yield nothing for the BJP. The public’s trust in their double-engine government has diminished,” he added, accusing the BJP of stirring old controversies to distract from pressing contemporary issues.
On the arrest of Azam Khan shortly after his release from prison, Prasad labeled it as a case of political vendetta. “Azam Khan is a senior leader in our party, and the Samajwadi Party has always treated him with respect, whether under Mulayam Singh Yadav’s leadership or our current national president Akhilesh Yadav,” he stated, criticizing the BJP’s relentless targeting of Khan.
He dismissed the allegations against Khan as ludicrous, questioning, “Who would believe that Azam Khan could steal chickens, books, or bicycles?” Prasad described the charges as baseless and indicative of the BJP’s mindset, used to humiliate and imprison opposition figures.
In conclusion, he reiterated that the rally was a significant event and asserted that the BJP is struggling to digest its success, leading to the targeting of opposition leaders through agencies like the ED.
