Chennai, March 24: Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the General Secretary of the AIADMK and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, is set to restart his election campaign on Wednesday. This move is expected to intensify the political battle in Tamil Nadu as the assembly elections approach.
According to party sources, Palaniswami will address a public meeting at 4 PM in the Mandaveli Market area of the Mylapore assembly constituency. This event marks the beginning of a renewed campaign across the state.
The Election Commission of India has announced that voting will take place on April 23. The nomination process will commence on March 30, with vote counting scheduled for May 4, the same day the results will be declared.
As the electoral process progresses, all political parties in the state are ramping up their activities. There is a particular focus on alliances, candidate selection, and outreach to voters.
The ruling DMK-led coalition has nearly finalized its seat-sharing arrangements, giving it an early advantage in the campaign. Meanwhile, the opposition alliance, led by the AIADMK and the BJP, is also gearing up to pose a strong challenge. Indications suggest a multi-cornered contest in the state.
The NDA, led by the AIADMK, includes the BJP, PMK, Tamil Manila Congress, and other regional parties. Discussions among coalition partners regarding seat distribution have been ongoing and are now close to completion.
Recently, Union Minister Piyush Goyal met with alliance leaders during his visit to Chennai to finalize seat-sharing agreements. Under this arrangement, the BJP will contest 27 seats, PMK 18, and AMMK 11, while the AIADMK will field candidates in most constituencies.
Palaniswami has previously toured the state ahead of the announcement of election dates. His new campaign will focus on strengthening party organization, countering the DMK’s narrative, and energizing party workers.
With alliances being finalized and campaigning intensifying, this election in Tamil Nadu is poised to be highly competitive and engaging.
