Pakistani Spy Arrested at Assam Air Force Station for Leaking Sensitive Information

Dibrugarh, March 23: A joint operation by the Air Force and Rajasthan Intelligence has led to the arrest of a staff member at an Assam Air Force station on charges of espionage for Pakistan. The accused, identified as Sumit Kumar (36), hails from Lahurpar in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, and worked as Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) at the Air Force station.

According to Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence Department) Praful Kumar, Sumit Kumar misused his position to gather sensitive information related to the Indian Air Force and transmitted it to handlers in Pakistan via social media. Investigations revealed that he had been in contact with Pakistani intelligence agencies since 2023, sharing confidential information in exchange for money.

The case began in January 2026 with the arrest of Jhabaram from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. During interrogation, Sumit Kumar’s name emerged. Subsequently, Rajasthan Intelligence collaborated with the Air Force Intelligence Department in New Delhi to apprehend the suspect in Chabua.

Further questioning revealed that the accused shared critical information not only about the Chabua Air Force station but also about other military installations, including the Nal Air Force station in Bikaner. This included details on fighter jet locations, missile systems, and confidential information regarding officials and staff. Additionally, he assisted Pakistani handlers in creating social media accounts using his mobile numbers.

Authorities confirmed that the arrest was made during a joint operation by the Rajasthan Intelligence Department and the Air Force Intelligence Department. During interrogation, he admitted to being in contact with Pakistani intelligence agents since 2023 and sharing sensitive information for financial gain. Police have registered a case under the Official Secrets Act of 1923 and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to uncover a broader espionage network.

Currently, a case has been filed against the accused under the Official Secrets Act of 1923 and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigative agencies are continuously probing to identify other members of the extensive espionage network.
