New Delhi: Just a day after Bangladesh hinted at withdrawing support for the T20 World Cup 2026, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced its 15-member squad for the global tournament, led by Salman Ali Agha.
The PCB included former captain and senior player Babar Azam in the squad, but fast bowler Haris Rauf and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan were left out. Despite disappointing performances by Babar, Rizwan, and Haris in the recent Big Bash League (BBL), Babar retained his place in the team.
Khushdil Shah has been selected as a wicketkeeper along with opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan, who is also likely to take on wicketkeeping duties. Farhan has experience as a wicketkeeper in domestic T20 matches. The squad also includes Usman Khan, another wicketkeeper.
All-rounders Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan are expected to provide balance with their bowling and batting skills. Fast bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has also been named in the team.
With Haris Rauf’s absence, the pace bowling attack will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.
The T20 World Cup 2026 begins on 7 February and will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan has been placed in Group A alongside India, the Netherlands, the USA, and Namibia. Pakistan will play all its group matches in Colombo, facing the Netherlands on 7 February, the USA on 10 February, India on 15 February, and Namibia on 18 February.
