Over 108,000 U.S. Troops Deployed Across 160 Countries Amid Rising Tensions

Washington, March 5: Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the United States has significantly expanded its military operations. Currently, over 108,000 American soldiers are deployed or stationed in advance across 160 countries.

This deployment comes at a time when the U.S. is facing ongoing conflicts with Iran and addressing rising security threats from China and Russia.

Top Pentagon officials testified before the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness on Wednesday, stating that the U.S. military is capable of maintaining its operations globally while actively engaged in the Middle East.

U.S. Army Vice Chief General Christopher LaNeve informed senators that American forces are active in multiple regions, maintaining resilience amid changing threats.

LaNeve stated, “Today, over 108,000 U.S. troops are deployed or stationed in advance across 160 countries, safeguarding our interests in the Western Hemisphere.”

He noted that U.S. troops in the Middle East are operating in a complex and dangerous environment due to the ongoing conflict with Iran and its regional allies.

“They are defending American forces and partners against missiles and drones, while also protecting critical infrastructure,” LaNeve added.

He emphasized that U.S. soldiers are collaborating with intelligence and joint fire capabilities to ensure rapid responses to threats, while continuing to provide fuel, ammunition, and medical support in the theater.

Vice Chief of Naval Operations Admiral James Kilby informed lawmakers that the U.S. Navy conducted numerous military missions last year, supporting joint forces. The Navy has engaged in attacks against adversaries and ensured the security of its allies in the Middle East. It remains consistently active in the Indo-Pacific region, monitoring increased Chinese activities and collaborating with allied nations.

Kilby mentioned that the Navy is reducing delays in ship repairs and modernizing shipyards to strengthen its readiness, aiming for 80% of its war-ready ships, aircraft, and submarines to be always prepared for deployment.

Marine Corps officials stated that their forces are ready to deploy quickly anywhere in the world, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, where tensions with China are rising. A senior officer remarked that the Marine Corps serves as a globally responsive force, actively engaging in the Indo-Pacific.

Air Force Vice Chief of Staff General James Lamoine stated that the Air Force is modernizing its aircraft and training new pilots. He highlighted that the Air Force’s primary role is to operate and maintain aircraft in optimal condition for immediate action when needed.

He noted that the Air Force trains approximately 1,500 new pilots annually and is developing new aircraft and advanced combat systems, including the B-21 bomber.

Space Force officials, led by General Michael Guetlein, emphasized the critical role of space in modern warfare. They reported the recent launch of new satellites for missile warning, navigation, and space surveillance.

However, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has warned that the U.S. military still faces several challenges. GAO official Diana Maurer stated that while the U.S. possesses the world’s strongest military, issues such as outdated weapons, repair delays, and shortages of spare parts are impacting readiness.
