New Delhi, March 27: Amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Indian government has made a significant decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. This move has sparked reactions from various political parties. Congress leader Rashid Alvi stated that while the excise duty has been cut, fuel prices remain unchanged.
Alvi questioned who truly benefits from the excise duty reduction, emphasizing that petrol and diesel prices have not decreased, leaving the common man without any relief.
In a conversation in New Delhi, Alvi remarked that the excise duty cut only shifts funds within the government. He noted that while the excise duty reduction means less revenue for the Finance Ministry, it will still remain with the Petroleum Ministry. This money, he argued, will not reach the common citizen.
He stressed that until petrol and diesel prices are lowered at the pumps, the public will not see any real benefit.
Responding to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s comments, Alvi pointed out that rumors do not originate from the common people. If misinformation is circulating, it is likely stemming from government statements. He urged the government to be cautious in its communications to avoid spreading any rumors.
Regarding Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s visit to Ayodhya for prayers at the Ram Temple, Alvi stated that individuals should visit places of faith that resonate with them. He believes that those who have faith in temples should go, just as those who believe in mosques should visit them.
Alvi added that Singh’s pilgrimage should not be politicized. Singh himself had previously stated that he has never opposed the Ram Temple and contributed financially to its cause, having donated ₹1.10 lakh. He emphasized that his visit was not politically motivated.
