Simdega, March 5: Residents of Simdega district in Jharkhand took to the streets on Thursday morning to protest against the deteriorating healthcare system. Demonstrators claim that the absence of doctors and medical staff at the local hospital led to the untimely death of Rameshwar Singh, a BJP block secretary and social worker, who did not receive timely medical attention.
In response to this incident, local residents and BJP supporters have called for a shutdown in Jaldega. Supporters began blocking main roads early in the morning, halting vehicle movement. Protesters chanted slogans demanding improvements in healthcare services and accountability for those responsible. Many shops in the block headquarters were closed, and angry residents staged sit-ins at various locations.
Just two days prior, during a religious event, Rameshwar Singh suddenly fell ill and collapsed near the stage. Attendees rushed to assist him and took him to the Jaldega Community Health Center for treatment. Family members and supporters reported that there were no doctors present, nor was there adequate medical care available at the facility.
They alleged that emergency services were ineffective and that on-duty staff did not respond with the necessary urgency. Given his critical condition, he was later transferred to Simdega Sadar Hospital, where he was referred to another hospital for better treatment. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon examination there.
The incident has sparked widespread anger in the area. In light of the situation, authorities have deployed police forces to several locations as a precaution. Officials are attempting to engage with the protesters to restore normalcy, but demonstrators remain firm in their demands.
